School Board

A Special Election for one seat on the St. Francis Area Schools (SFAS) School Board will occur on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The filing period for interested community members runs from Tuesday, July 29 to Tuesday, Aug. 12.

At the June 23 SFAS Regular School Board Meeting, the board selected Jessica Bakken-Kleven as an interim School Board member to replace Andrea Anson, who resigned, effective June 6.

The winner of the special election will begin their appointment following the certification of the election results and serve on the board until Jan. 8, 2029.

Candidate filings are to be submitted during business hours at the SFAS District Office (4115 Ambassador Blvd NW, St Francis, MN 55070) between July 29 and Aug. 12. All candidate filings must be received by Aug. 12 at 5 p.m.

How to file:

  • Candidate filing period: July 29 - August 12

  • Obtain an Affidavit of Candidacy on the Secretary of State's website or pick up a paper copy at the district office.

  • File your notarized Affidavit of Candidacy, along with a $2 filing fee at the St. Francis Area Schools District Office: 4115 Ambassador Blvd NW, Saint Francis, MN 55070.

  • With the exception of the last day of candidate filing when the district office is open until 5 p.m., regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. A notary will be on staff for the filing period, except for Tuesday, Aug. 12.

  • Candidates can withdraw their candidacy by completing the Affidavit of Withdrawal up to and no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.

To qualify for election:

  • Be an eligible voter

  • Be 21 years of age or older

  • Have been a resident of the school district for 30 days before the general election
