older student reading with younger student

A collaborative book arts class paired Art and English Language Arts at Saints Academy to allow students to be creative with the creation of their own children’s book.

Through the innovative class offering, students learned the process of writing content and creating illustrations to make their own children's book. Areas of focus included theme and idea generation, storyboarding and unique bookbinding methods.

To gain motivation and ideas for their own stories, students visited with 2nd grade classrooms at St. Francis Elementary School. They read together and the older students used discussion worksheets to find out what the 2nd graders like to learn from books and what they enjoy most.
