The St. Francis Middle School (SFMS) Student Council was busy in 2023-24. The group made up of sixth, seventh and eighth graders planned numerous fun events to help provide students with a positive and exciting middle school experience.
“Our SFMS Student Council is amazing,” said SFMS Principal Heidi Critchley. “They created lasting memories for our students and staff. This group promotes school spirit and are student leaders. They conduct service projects that help our school, our students, and our community.”
During the holiday season, Student Council hosted “Holiday Drive: Hope 4 Youth.” Hope 4 Youth is a non-profit organization dedicated to help those ages 16 to 24 that are experiencing homelessness in the northern Twin Cities metro area. The Saints Time Advisory groups participated in a competition to encourage donations to not only motivate students, but also ensure a substantial amount of donations were collected. The items gathered, like food, hygiene products, clothing, and household items, covers a wide range of necessities to provide comprehensive support to those in need. The school administrators and staff were very proud of the Student Council leaders and all of the students for their generosity.
Another school event planned by the Student Council was the “Winter Wonderland Activities,” which featured roller skating, face painting, and a selfie station. Also, the official DJ of the Minnesota Wild added an extra layer of excitement. A Spirit Week lineup got everyone in the holiday spirit and promoted a sense of fun and camaraderie among students. From Ugly Sweater Day to Holiday Hats Day, there was something for everyone to enjoy and participate in.
“The winter event was an absolute blast,” Critchley said. “The Student Council’s dedication and leadership throughout the year deserves appreciation.”
